Here's a question I haven't heard asked by anyone in the media or even on a blog. When the media pitches a fit about not being able to display certain pictures or they are told to quit broadcasting for a certain length of time are they REALLY concerned with their "freedom" to inform the people are they driven by the all mighty dollar which is made by higher ratings?
Seriously, consider the different occasions in which the media has railed against various governments because they were told not to display certain images or broadcast certain footage.
Consider The United Kingdom who told news groups not to broadcast the police raiding the apartments of the London bombers being raided. One woman went on giving an account over cell phone regardless of the request of the government.
What would motivate one to endanger the lives of officers trying to capture known violent terrorists bent on mass slaughter? Is it freedom? Why would freedom even come into question during this event? Don't the officers have a right to the freedom to do their jobs without having some reporter giving away their positions and intentions?
What kind of mindset would one have to have to disregard the safety of a nation? If you consider the history of our nation that question is easily answered. What motivated the big businessmen who ran cannery row which endangered not only those who worked there but anyone who ate that meat? What motivated slave owners to commit to the most brutal and life consuming war in the history of our nation fought in the back yards of the vast majority of our nation? What motivated England to brutally slaughter civilians thereby causing the very bloody revolutionary war which was fought on the streets of colonies?
I can answer that with one word: MONEY. Our media has apparently forgotten it's first responsibility to the people whom it serves. The media's entire purpose for being is to inform people of people, places, things, and ideas which are constructive in order for them to better themselves, and which are detrimental so that they may effect change on them. The media is there to keep us safe from the dangers or ignorance, hatred, and greed.
When the media tosses out it's responsibility to these principles it ceases to serve it's purpose, and becomes less valuable. It also treads on the grounds of becoming dangerous by allowing it's own greed for ratings which increases it's profitability to bring it to a point where it supports the enemies of those people whom it was intended to protect and that government which provides it's freedom and ability to exist.
Has the far left not noticed that media IS big business, or is it just that the media is useful and therefore not SUBJECT to the scrutiny that the far left dishes out to the pharmaceutical and oil companies? It seems that it's not about protecting the little guy from big business special interests anymore as the left is feeding it's own people directly to the giant mind grinder which is the mass media. Oh no. The Left has become that which it claims to hate: The support structure for the special interest groups which are eating away at the core of our nation.
Unfortunately, the media is only one leg of this giant monstrosity which is devouring our nation, but that story is for another time. The next time you see some news outlet screaming "censorship" consider the lives of those who are risked by the release of that information and the money made by those who feed off of the lives sacrificed by our men and women in AND out of uniform.
Thank you
